The fog in San Francisco is so ubiquitous,
At times, that we have given it a proper name.
Carl, it is called, is gender neutral as befits
Our “progressive” place.
It is not peaceful;
It is restless:
It rolls under the bridge of the Gate,
And comes up to swallow
Its towers of rust in color.
I like it when Carl romanticizes the night,
Not so much when its gray
Dominates the day.
Fog is the work of the Valley heat and
Ocean mist, they say.
Nonsense, I say:
Ours comes and goes as it pleases,
Like so much in this City
That says laissez faire.
